What academic qualifications do I need to apply for a UK degree preparation course?
Typically, to apply for a UK bachelor’s degree preparation programme:
- At least 11 years of education (for Foundation Certificate courses)
- At least 12 years of education (for International Year One courses)
Typically, to apply for a UK master’s degree preparation programme:
- At least 3 years of higher education or equivalent
What English language qualifications do I need to apply for a UK degree preparation course?
Typically, to apply for a UK bachelor’s degree preparation course:
- UKVI IELTS 4.0 to 5.5 (or accepted equivalent)
Typically, to apply for a UK master’s degree preparation course:
- UKVI IELTS 4.5 to 5.5 (or accepted equivalent)
To be accepted onto a course, you’ll need to show that you have the required IELTS score (or an equivalent English language test). You can book a test on the UKVI IELTS website.

- Some degrees and universities accept slightly lower English scores, while some require higher English scores
