A university culture defined by excellence

The University of Oregon (UO) isn’t just a place to study — it’s a culture. It’s where one of the world’s most well-known brands, Nike, was born. It’s where students embrace the University’s iconic Oregon duck mascot, and where you can grow and feel nurtured.

Finally, it’s where you can get state-of-the-art research experience and go on to achieve excellence in your life and career. That’s why they call it mighty Oregon!

Across the United States, UO is one of the most well-recognized universities, known for its great reputation across National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sports, its iconic green and yellow school colors, and its close community of friendly students known as Ducks.

UO graduates are changemakers: creative individuals driven to make an impact and leave their mark on the world.

In addition to being successful in many career fields, and even founding well-known companies, Oregon Ducks have won Nobel Prizes, Pulitzer Prizes, MacArthur Fellowship “genius grants”, Tonys, and Oscars.

Through UO’s partnership with Kaplan, students from around the globe will now have Kaplan’s support with their application and admission to this distinguished university.

How research at UO prepares you for career excellence

Getting involved in research is an important part of the undergraduate experience at the University of Oregon. In fact, 74% of UO students are engaged in research activity!

Studies have long shown that students who participate in undergraduate research are more likely to earn better grades, more likely to graduate, and are better equipped for their careers. In fact, according to a 2021 survey by the American Association of Colleges and Universities, 85% of employers were more likely to hire a candidate with experience in undergraduate research.

This bodes well for UO students as the University is home to some of the world’s most accomplished professors and researchers in their fields. Many of them have won awards for their teaching, and all of them are passionate about making a difference in the world.

What’s more, UO is part of the American Association of Universities (AAU), an exclusive group of 71 of North America’s leading research institutions, including Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and Yale. UO is Oregon’s only AAU member, and one of only two in the whole of the USA’s Pacific Northwest.

Thanks to the university’s prestigious reputation and commitment to research and career readiness, UO graduates have gone on to jobs with some of the world’s top companies, including:

  • Adidas
  • Amazon
  • Apple
  • Google
  • Meta
  • Microsoft
  • Nike
  • Salesforce

A top-50 college town

The term “college town” is defined by locations (cities, towns, districts) that take on the identity of their local university. Given there are over 4,000 universities in the USA, there are thousands of college towns across the United States.

That means it’s extra impressive that Eugene, where UO is based, is ranked the #42 best college town in the USA (Best College Reviews 2022)!

Top college towns like Eugene are not only great for immersing yourself in a university’s culture, they’re also the perfect places to take your studies seriously.

In Eugene, the local community — its people and businesses — are invested in the success of UO students. This makes the city an excellent place to focus on your studies, develop a community of lifelong friends, and benefit from an unbeatable quality of life in beautiful Oregon.

Eugene is less than a two-hour drive from Oregon’s largest city, Portland — known locally as “Soccer City USA” for its world-class football culture and its outstanding Major League Soccer team, the Timbers. UO students benefit from proximity to Portland, where you can find job opportunities and many well-known companies.

But what about the state of Oregon and the area surrounding UO? It’s nature-lover’s paradise: mountains, lakes, rivers, trails and the great outdoors are front and center here. Crater Lake National Park is close by, where you can see one of the world’s deepest, clearest, and bluest lakes and enjoy pristine views of and hikes in the Cascade mountains. And for beach lovers, the Pacific Ocean is just an hour’s bus ride away!

Apply through Kaplan to the University of Oregon

You can apply to one of more than 70 UO bachelor’s degree programs through Kaplan, including 20+ STEM-designated majors, and benefit from our team’s valuable expertise and friendly support. In addition to waiving your UO application fee, we’ll advise you on things like deadlines and scholarships to keep you on track.

We’ll also assess your transcripts and personal statement, helping you put together the best application you can, so you can increase your chances of getting admitted to the University of Oregon.

If you don’t have a high enough English score to meet the University’s requirements, you’ll still have admission options. For example, you could join an International First-Year Interest Group (iFIG) and take credit-bearing English and culture classes alongside your first-year studies.

Alternatively, you may be offered “conditional admission” and study in an Intensive English Program at the on-campus American English Institute before your degree program.
