Through the Human Rights Centre’s research and practice, it makes concrete differences at the international, national and local level. As an Essex student, you can gain experience at the Human Rights Centre and learn how to apply theory to real human rights problems.

During your degree, you’ll also have the opportunity to do a work placement year or a year abroad. This kind of experience can really set you apart when you start applying for jobs after you graduate.

Study an International Year One

If you don’t currently qualify to study a Law degree at the University of Essex, then we can help you gain entry.

You can take an International Year One pathway course on campus at the University of Essex International College, and progress straight to the second year of an LLB degree at the University.

This is our only IYO in Law available in the UK, and it can help you improve your English language level and reach the entry requirements for a Law degree at the University of Essex.

You’ll also learn about the English legal system, including different forms of dispute resolution, and develop research and communication skills that will help you in your studies.

All of the knowledge and skills you gain during your IYO course will help you feel prepared for your degree. And, if you pass your pathway course at the right level and with good attendance, then you’re guaranteed entry to the University of Essex!
