Paying for your studies in Canada
If you’ve accepted an offer from a Canadian university, or you plan to study in Canada, you’ll want to know how much everything costs.
Application and enrolment fees
Due to Kaplan’s partnerships with Canadian universities, if you apply through us, then the application fees are waived. You won’t have to pay anything to apply to a Canadian university.
After accepting your offer, you’ll need to officially confirm your place. This typically means you will need to pay your university’s acceptance deposit
Paying your deposit
In Canada, an acceptance deposit is a fee paid to formally confirm your intent to enrol at the university. This fee varies depending on your university and program, but it’s rarely more than CAD$500.
When you accept your offer from a Canadian university, you’ll also need to pay a security deposit, which is typically around CAD$250. You pay this fee to the university’s Residence Services and it will be refunded to you after you move out.
Deposit due dates depend on the university and intake you have applied for. If you’re confident that you’ll accept your offer, we recommend that you pay your acceptance deposit as soon as possible. Paying this fee will mean you can take the next steps in the admission process, such as securing a Canadian study permit and applying for housing.
Yes, your enrolment deposit goes towards your university tuition fees. It will be deducted from the outstanding tuition fees that you need to pay.
Choosing your student housing
Student housing at Canadian universities is generally given to students on a first-come, first-served basis. So, by paying your acceptance and security deposit as early as possible, you can then apply for the housing option that you’d prefer. You won’t be able to apply for housing until you’ve paid these deposits.

Applying for a study permit
To study abroad in Canada, you’ll need to apply for a Canadian study permit. You need to provide proof of acceptance to a designated learning institution (DLI) and evidence that you have the funds to cover your tuition and living costs for one academic year.
You can apply for a study permit on the Canadian government’s website. Processing time takes around 10 weeks, so apply as soon as possible!
UVic is now also able to distribute provincial attestation letters (PALs) to incoming international undergraduate students who have received a letter of offer and paid their acceptance deposit.
How to make a payment
To secure your spot at the University of Victoria, please pay your acceptance deposit through the UVic student portal using your NetLink ID.
