Where is Nottingham? What is it like? 

Nottingham is located right in the middle of England, in a region called the Midlands. It’s easy to navigate and ideally situated for exploring the rest of the UK. There are regular trains between Nottingham and other major cities, including London St Pancras (from 1 hour 37 mins), Birmingham (1 hour 15 mins), Manchester (2 hours) and Sheffield (1 hour). You can also explore further afield from the nearby East Midlands Airport.

Nottingham is a vibrant, friendly and multicultural city. It is ranked the 9th best city in the UK and 50th in the world for students by QS Best Student Cities 2025. Holding the Purple Flag status since 2010, Nottingham is recognised for its safety.


What can I do in Nottingham? 

Lots! Across the university’s campuses, you’ll find the Students’ Union, Lakeside Arts Centre, a farmers’ market, gardens, woodlands and a lake. Meanwhile, you’re never short of things to do in the city of Nottingham. Think museums, theatres, a castle, parks and gardens, quirky cafes and shops, buzzing nightlife, music and cultural festivals, Premier League football and the National Ice Centre.
