Academic support services
At the University of Oregon, your academic success is the top priority. From the moment you enroll, you’ll benefit from a full suite of support services, programs, and departments designed to help you make the most of your four years at UO.
International student support
As an international student, you can always make use of the University’s International Student and Scholar Services. They are there to offer guidance in areas such as:
- registering for classes
- visa compliance
- orientation
- managing your workload
- emergency funding
Tutoring and advising
If you need assistance with choosing your major, the Office of Academic Advising may be your best resource. The team there will assist you with mapping out your academic experience.
There’s also subject-specific support from the Tutoring and Academic Engagement Center, which offers services like the Online Writing Lab, peer academic coaching, and so much more!
Academic Residential Communities
Through the University of Oregon’s Academic Residential Communities (ARC), you can live alongside peers who share your academic interests. ARCs are led by faculty in the same field, meaning you’ll benefit from a close-knit academic support system and access to resources specific to your exact needs.
Personal and health support services
Of course, academics aren’t everything. During your time at UO, it’s also important for you to feel welcome, healthy and safe. To look after your overall wellbeing, the University provides a series of personal and health support services that you can use during your studies.
Wellbeing support
As part of UO’s University Health Services (UHS), the Mental Health Access Team provides a bridge to UO’s full range of personalized on-campus mental health support services. You’ll be able to get crisis support and one-to-one counseling with licensed psychologists, alongside group sessions with other students who may be experiencing the same challenges as you.
UO also offers primary healthcare services for all students. You’re welcome to call or drop in to speak to a medical professional at any time. If you need medical care for minor illnesses and injuries, you can visit the Acute Care Clinic.
Mentoring for international students
Moving to a new country can be a challenging experience at first. You may feel homesick, or struggle to get involved with campus life. To help you through this period, UO has created the International Peer Mentor Program — a student-led peer support program solely for international students. By connecting with Peer Mentors, you can get help with adapting to life in the US, find useful resources on and off campus, and make a trustworthy friend.
Campus safety
While you’re on campus, you’ll enjoy peace of mind knowing that you’re safe at all times. The University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD) operates 24 hours a day, all year round, to create an extremely secure campus environment. UOPD’s staff includes police officers, public safety officers, security officers, and civilian staff.
Social events to help you feel at home
The University of Oregon offers 2,400+ campus events and activities every year — a perfect way to meet other students and make friends. Whether it’s joining a student organization or watching live sports, there are always ways to connect with the UO community!
Student clubs and organizations
With more than 400 student groups, from subject-specific organizations to clubs dedicated to hobbies like rock-climbing and Argentine Tango (for example), there’s something for everyone at UO! Whatever your passion, you’ll be able to explore it with like-minded students.
As an international student, you can also join the UO International Student Association (UOISA), which has 3,000 members from 90 countries. They host a wide range of events both on and off campus designed to bridge different cultures and bring students closer together. It’s a great way to make friends and experience UO’s diverse atmosphere!
Organized sports
Home to one of the world’s most iconic running tracks, Hayward Field, it’s no surprise that UO has a global reputation for sports. Over 1,300 participants are part of the 40 club teams on campus. You can either get involved or soak in the unbeatable atmosphere at live sports games!
Culture and live events
UO excels beyond sports, offering cultural and social events like concerts, outdoor films, guest lectures, and exhibitions at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art — all of which you’ll find right on campus! Many events take place at Mills International Center, which is a great place for international students to connect, study, or relax.
Professional support services
Along with providing research experience that makes you a stronger job candidate, UO offers dedicated career support throughout your degree. While enrolled, you’ll have access to a range of resources designed to help you succeed after graduation.
